Announcing the Launch of the Shape the Future Competition

Announcing the Launch of the Shape the Future Competition

When it was first introduced, DuPont Corian was a revolutionary material: durable, attractive, and performative. But, given the fabrication technologies available then, its sculptural qualities were never truly exploited. Today designers armed with rapid prototyping and other digital tools can see what Corian can really do and push the material beyond what we've come to expect from it.

Shape the Future is a joint collaboration between Metropolis and DuPont Corian and open to architects, interior designers, industrial designers, and students. The competition asks participants to reimagine Corian solid surface as a building and design resource, with the goal of innovating new, exciting uses for the time-tested material. Entries should envision how Corian can be applied in the design of structures, environments, installations, furniture and objects to breathe life into typologies such as Healthcare, Workplace, Education, Retail, Residential, Hotels, Restaurants, Transportation, Institutional and Cultural.

Winning projects will receive a total of $10,000 in prizes—$7,000 for first place and $1,500 each for two runners-up—and international publicity across Metropolis magazine’s media and social media channels, Corian.com and its social media channels and possible exhibition opportunities.
