China expands its cultural capital at great speed, and with cutting-edge design.

Chinese national pride, inspired by a new global prominence, has found a curious expression—museum building. The country doesn’t yet have anything close to the estimated 17,500 museums in the U.S., but as Clare Jacobson’s book New Museums in China (Princeton Architectural Press, 2013) shows, talented architects are creating spectacular venues as fast as they can.
