Höst Restaurant of Copenhagen Wins Best Restaurant Design Award

Höst Restaurant of Copenhagen Wins Best Restaurant Design Award

Höst is the first Danish restaurant to win the annual Restaurant & Bar Design Award, a UK and international competition now in its fifth year. Norm Architects of Copenhagen (featured in Metropolis magazine here) and Menu of Fredensborg partnered to bring a cozy charm to the now-familiar trend towards rustic, minimalist interiors found in many posh urban scenes. The juxtaposition of organically elegant dinnerware and homey stick-back chairs to rough-hewn wooden tables and vintage styled industrial lamps is striking, but a warm and refreshing palette of natural materials is the overall effect.

As of this writing, a three-course prix fixe will translate to about $55 USD, and a sampling of the woody a la cart menu includes Norwegian lobster with seabuckthorn and juniper cream, apple porridge, ribeye with mushrooms, and birch bark icecream with Doyenne pear (full menu here). Other European restaurants shortlisted for the R&BD Awards include the design work of PB Studio and Filip Kozarski (Poland), Corvin Cristian (Romania), Not Before Ten (Belgium), Designliga and Ippolito Fleitz Group (Germany), El Equipo Crativo and Oscar Vidal Quist (Spain), Noses Architects (Italy), and Hayon Studio (France).
