Digital tools have had a profound effect on how we live and work, and on the design of the spaces we inhabit. New offices are becoming increasingly connected and data-informed while, simultaneously, new modes of virtual work and divisions of labor are emerging. In this special section that appeared in Metropolis Magazine‘s April 2018 issue, award-winning design firm Studio O+A examines and imagines the future of interiors in a tech-driven world. Tackling topics ranging from space planning to outer space, a series of analyses and expert comments culminates in Studio O+A’s utopian vision of a workplace in 2068. As the firm’s cofounder Verda Alexander says: “A bright future will be one where we solve global warming and restore the human values that technology is challenging.”
