Opening April 4 in conjunction with the Salone del Mobile, this year’s Euroluce lighting exhibition in Milan will see 454 lighting companies present their best and “brightest” products. LEDs and allied technologies, like intelligent control systems and OLEDs, continue to dominate. But the key challenge for the lighting industry, the show’s organizers have stated, is the “harmonious balance between lighting products’ twin values: functionality and emotionality.” Here is a preview of seven standouts from the fair that strike that balance perfectly.

Available in the United States through DOM Interiors, this design by Davide Groppi strips the concept of a light fixture to the bare minimum: an LED strip mounted on a thin tape of composite material and pulled taut by two wall-mounted turnbuckles.
