CHEF MICROWAVE STOVETOP
Konstantin Grcic for Whirlpool Europe
For its 2000 exhibition Macrowave: New Frontiers for the Modern
Microwave, Whirlpool asked eight designers to imagine ways to reinvent
the ubiquitous boxy oven. German designer Konstantin Grcic decided that
our prejudices toward the appliance could be addressed by making it more
enjoyable to use. His stainless-steel "cooking station," which
looks like a stovetop burner, would house the microwave technology.
"Tools" that look like ordinary pots would lock onto and
activate the cooking station, and perforated lids would allow cooks to
see and smell the food while preventing microwaves from escaping.
