Infodrome is a new think tank sponsored by the Dutch
government to stimulate debate about government policy on
information and communication technology. Its house style,
designed by the Amsterdam-based duo Maureen Mooren and
Daniel van der Velden, is a delightful throwback to early
eighties computer information graphics (think Commodore 64).
"We were thinking of the idea of a
'wordscape'--endlessly repeating words instead of using just
a fixed logo," van der Velden explains. "Every
item of printed matter is echoed by a word which directly
relates to the function that item has, such as letterheads
for 'searching,' business cards for 'connecting,' and even a
place mat for 'thinking.'"
Saskia Van Drimmelen invitation, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Organizer invitation, Den Bosch, Netherlands
Trading Spirit invitation, Milan, Italy
Jan Mot Gallery mini newspaper, Brussels, Belgium
As an invitation for Saskia van Drimmelen1s 1998/1999
fashion presentation (more on her work at
www.vandrimmelen.com), a shirt from the collection was
reproduced on a 1:1 scale, and then folded like a shirt.
Organizer, an event involving techno, performance and
fashion design, is represented by a pop lyric, written by
the designers. The song text, which contains all relevant
names & dates information as well, is published in the
form of an empty cd single jacket which is sent out as an
invitation.
The Trading Spirit exhibition, which took place in a space in Milan, was
published by means of an envelope promising the receiver to be a 'Winner'.
Deception comes fast as the reader scans the content underneath, revealing
there is no winner at all.
Maureen Mooren and Daniel van der Velden proposed the format of a downsized
newspaper for the newsletter of this Brussels gallery.
YOU brochure, Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam, Netherlands
In this application brochure the original programme is extended by
self-written texts and graphics, focussing on the expectations of the
future applicant of the academy - the "YOU" person.
Marres invitations, Maastricht, Netherlands
Series of exhibition invitations.
ROOM inviations, Rotterdam, Netherlands
The texts on these A4 cards are completely written by the
designers and offer functional information embedded in a
wider textual scenario, always related to the format of the
letter, which is why the series is called "recycled
letters". One letter for instance announces the ending
of a relationship, mentioning all functional data of a given
exhibition as well.
Pocket book, Galeria Juana de Aizpuru, Madrid, and Dora García, Brussels
"Pocket" is about the work of artist Dora
García. It is based on the world of the novel. The
work is divided in chapters. The typografie plays around
with the novel as well. Throughout the book you find
comments written by the designers, reacting to what happens
on individual pages and within the contexts of individual
works.
365xThings to do today, Annual Report Council for Culture 1999
As a 365-page addition to the annual report of the
Netherlands' Council for Culture, the designers asked
different people what they remembered of a specific day in
1999 - either on the basis of a kept notebook, or on the
basis of memory.
