MAT
MANUFACTURER: Bulo
DESIGNER: Dirk Bikkembergs
WHAT IS IT?: Responding to the question "Why not work while lying down?" Belgian fashion designer Dirk Bikkembergs came up with a mat to be used as an alternative desk. It can also work as a floor cover, a piece of folded furniture, a lean-to, or simply a gym mat.
RELEASE DATE: Available now
SPECIFICATIONS: Made of bonded foam with a vinyl
finish and antiskid bottom, it is available in beige and dark or light blue.
INSPIRATION: Created within the context of a show
entitled "New Ways of Working," it is an exploration of the collapsing boundaries between work and leisure.
SPECIAL FEATURE: For vertical suspension, you can order a mounting set and black elastic band that can function as a magazine or newspaper holder.
WHAT WE THINK: MAT is part of Bulo's Carte Blanche series, which gives designers free rein in creating alternative office environments. We're curious to see what playful extremes its users will come up with.
