9. Cars + Emotional Intelligence
Toyota and Sony's Personalization on
Demand (POD) concept car plays off of the emotional relationships
drivers develop with their vehicles. In this reciprocal case, the car
listens to the driver, monitors his/her driving habits, and over time
learns his/her personality traits and driving abilities. It expresses
six distinct emotions--including happiness, surprise, and sadness--using
LED colors and a combination of its eyes (headlamps), mouth (grille),
and ears (side mirrors). Even its tail-like trunk antenna wags with
pleasure when, for example, the driver approaches or refuels the car
