A Graphic Halloween

An artists’ book fair is a New Yorker’s treat

This weekend, not all New Yorkers’ plans need to center around drunken revelry in a devil costume. The Editions|Artists’ Book Fair is also taking place in the city until Sunday. Heavy on prints and imprints from galleries, the fair presents a range of artists from around the world.

Even if you’re not in the mood to art hop, you may want to stop in for some of the free talks happening at the Art on Paper Symposium in the Kartell Lounge such as today’s “Spooked by the Market” conversation ; Saturday’s artist discussion by Jill Magid, a photographer who documented the Dutch Secret Service for three years; or Sunday’s presentation on The Thing Quarterly.

Ever wanted to be featured in a book? Here’s your chance. The artist Jason Polan will be at the fair drawing people he meets today and tomorrow. He’ll compile 99 of his drawings into a book to be released at the Esopus table on Sunday. Anyone who purchases a copy of the limited-edition book (there will be 100, to be exact) will be drawn by Polan as that book’s 100th portrait.
