A historical copycat conundrum
January 1st, 1997 was a dramatic day in the history of architecture. Marvin Trachtenberg, an architectural historian at New York University, charged that Florence’s Pazzi Chapel was not designed by the famed architect Filippo Brunelleschi.

Casabella, an Italian architectural journal, published two long essays by Trachtenberg which asserted that Michelozzo dei Bortalommeo, a follower of Brunelleschi, who was known for his willingness to copy works of others, had in fact been responsible.
