Interface chairman and CEO Ray Anderson, Sasaki Associates’ Michael Bourque, and Metropolis editor in chief Susan S. Szenasy were among those lauded at the International Interior Design Association’s (IIDA’s) International Honors and Awards. IIDA president Anita Barnett, FIIDA, presided over the ceremony, held June 15 in the Studio Theater at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art.

Interface’s Anderson received the Star award, recognizing outstanding contributions to the interior design profession, while Bourque was presented with the Leadership honor for his advocacy of sustainable design (including his stewardship of the Green Design web site, founded by the IIDA, Metropolis Magazine, the Interior Design Education Council, and the International Facility Management Association). IIDA Mexico City Chapter president Luz Maria Duran received the Distinguished Merit award for her role in organizing the 2002 Mexico City Design Congress, and Brad Powell, editor of industry newsletter Officeinsight, collected the Recognition for Special Services honor for the publication’s role in educating the public about the value of design.

In addition, Ms. Barnett bestowed Presidential Commendations to Susan S. Szenasy, editor in chief of Metropolis Magazine, for her support of Green Design education; Kris Manos, for her facilitation of the 2002 Industry Advisory Council; and Herman Miller, Inc. for its leadership in the profession.
