Surface Area

A range of eclectically detailed and high performance materials for interior surfaces.

By Paul Makovsky

Posted February 1, 2005

In recent years architects and interior designers have shown preference for surfaces made with eclectic details and high-performance materials. Manufacturers have responded by revamping their offerings aesthetically, technologically, and environmentally. For example, Mechoshade is revisiting its staple product using MBDC’s cradle-to-cradle design protocol to come up with the first truly eco-effective fabric solar shade that can be recycled again and again. Skyline Design’s customizable Lumicast polymer sheets with 3-D objects suspended inside make it possible for designers to hang almost anything in the walls. The following 13 products are just a sampling of the range designers now have to choose from.
