Dragnet Chair
“This chair was finished in January, and ICFF will mark its U.S. debut. The shape is similar to conventional fishing nets. It reminds me of a hammock, swaying in the island breezes and wrapping you in warmth.
“The weaving method is inspired by a traditional Filipino technique, but the materials—polyester for the indoor version and Sunbrella fabric for the outdoor—are very new. I developed a knotting technique that wraps fabric around a galvanized-steel frame. I wanted to step away momentarily from the natural earthy tones I’m known for and infuse the design with this rich, bold color.
“The name is inspired by the way fishnets look dragging through the water, capturing the beauty of the colorful fish. My hope is that Dragnet could capture the beauty of people in this way.”
