L’Ale, designed by William Pedersen (no relation), is a continuation of Ivalo Lighting’s collaboration with leading architects and designers. “The idea behind L’Ale was to create the impression of a canopy without the heaviness of a solid structure,” says Susan Hakkarainen, founder of Ivalo, whose previous collaborations have included lights by Lewis.Tsurumaki.Lewis and architect Winka Dubbeldam.
L’Ale’s arching forms are composed of two wings with a graceful concave connector. Each wing contains a dimmable compact lamp, which provides a glow on the lower surface and gives illumination from two slots in the upper surface. The wingspan is four-and-a-half feet, and the width, seven inches.
