Mio Culture’s Green Seat

By Shonquis Moreno

Posted May 16, 2005

Mio Culture’s Bale Chair is sold in a kit that contains a seat, a base, and black or white nylon webbing that connects the two and can be adjusted for varying heights. Between the seat and base is empty space for storing magazines, books, boxes, or tchotchkes. “The chair has an industrial feel to it,” says Jaime Salm, who runs the Philadelphia-based studio with his older brother, Isaac, “but it’s made from FSC-certified plywood and 100 percent recycled polyester.” In the Bale, a high-end green idea meets low-end pricing: a trait shared by all Mio Culture products.
