A self-taught sculptor, William Earle crafts furniture that he calls “pure, futuristic, digital, but warm.” Named for the robot from 2001: A Space Odyssey, the Hal table base and stools are eight-sided, hollow prisms of medium-density fiberboard, their surfaces softly glowing with a heavily figured American maple veneer. Weighing a manageable 25 lbs. apiece, the stools can function as side tables or, when two or more are put together, as a coffee table. A glass top for the table may be obtained from Earle or purchased separately. The table base retails for $2,000, while the stools are $700 apiece.
