Hudson Valley–based designer Marian Schoettle has appropriated DuPont Tyvek—a durable lightweight polyethylene commonly used in mattress tags, insulating house wrap, and FedEx envelopes—as the raw material for a line of jackets, skirts, and bags. Schoettle, who uses the professional alias “mau,” calls the result “postindustrial folkwear”—a rather dour label for clothes that, particularly in white, resemble a mad scientist’s well-loved lab coat.
