FOR AIA MEMBERS, ARCHITECTS, AND OTHERS INTERESTED IN AIA CREDITS

Credit and eligibility

Courses for architects are registered with the American Institute of Architects/Continuing Education Systems (AIA/CES). Unless otherwise noted, courses are worth 1 Learning Unit (LU), which is equal to 0.1 Continuing Education Unit (CEU). Courses marked HSW are registered for Health, Safety, and Welfare credit.

According to the AIA website, AIA members must complete 18 LUs annually, of which at least 8 must be rated for HSW, to remain in good standing. Additionally, architectural boards in 34 states, 10 Canadian provinces, and 16 countries require continuing education for re-licensure. For specific requirements please contact the AIA or your state’s licensing board.
