Metropolis has long been a force for good in the design world, going beyond the architecture-as-fashion approach practiced by much of the design press to embrace the nitty-gritty reality.” —Blair Kamin, architecture critic, Chicago Tribune

Metropolis fills a void in design/architecture journalism that gives it a unique position. There are design-oriented magazines like Architectural Record or Interior Design magazine, and opinion-oriented press like The Architect’s Newspaper or Curbed.com, but Metropolis is more about concepts and ideas that will make a better world. Sure, it sounds corny, but to me those qualities are what makes it great reading. This emphasis on social responsibility takes it to places that sometimes really can be surprising and unpredictable, but that is what makes it so darn entertaining. If you are looking for a fresh and imaginative take on the current design scene, this is the place to look first. The magazine has a real personality; if you open it up you will never confuse it with anything else.

I like to think that we are in all in a new phase; economic hard times have brought us all back to thinking about what is truly important, and Metropolis was there way ahead of most of us.” —Joan Blumenfeld, Principal, Perkins+Will

Metropolis was and is a magazine for and about architects but it is clearly also a magazine for lovers of architecture and design,” —Mike Mense, FAIA

“Susan [Szenasy, editor in chief] and Metropolis have used their forum to educate the public and the profession on the values of good design and innovative ways to achieve our goals. Her influence also reaches manufacturers who value her directness, support, and expectation that their products meet the needs of architects and designers today and are eco-friendly.” —Eva L. Maddox, Assoc. AIA

Metropolis’ commitment to environmentally-sensitive design sets them and their coverage apart. They realize what many other publications do not: that sustainability is not just a niche, but the foundation of all forward-thinking design.” — Peter Busby, C.M., FRAIC Managing Director, Busby Perkins+Will

Metropolis has lost none of its renegade attitude, nor its willingness to take a critical, in-depth look at complex topics or lead its readers into the deep waters of theory, always keeping the writing bright.” — Patricia Lowry, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Metropolis intertwines all types and aspects of design, news, and everyday living into the magazine. I would recommend it to anyone interested in design or [in gaining] knowledge of this field.”

”[Metropolis] made me decide to be a designer. And every month, another issue arrives, and I decide all over again. Thank you.”
