Gareth Brennan Awarded CEO of the Year

On November 24th, 2009, at the annual Design Exchange Awards event, Eventscape’s president and founder, Gareth Brennan, was honored with a prodigious award—he was chosen as CEO of the Year! Every year a special award is given to the CEO of the year, along with awards for design excellence in architectural, interior design, landscape, industrial, and graphic design projects. This CEO demonstrates design innovation as a major component in their business strategy. Gareth was a popular choice for this award as he has embraced innovation from the beginning of his career.

Gareth started out in 1993 as a young entrepreneur with a vision. Since then, the company that began in Gareth’s basement has become a globally recognized, Canadian success story. Gareth’s wife and partner, Celeste has been integral to this success. Eventscape is now seventy people who work in a 70,000-square-foot facility in Toronto. Among them are the eight people who were Gareth Brennan’s first creative team.

This points to one of Gareth’s most pivotal achievements: He inspires loyalty, passion, and innovation in his team. His infectious enthusiasm powers a dynamic energy throughout his company, and the company, in turn, powers some of the most iconic creations ever seen.

Each project represents the best—and frequently unprecedented—solution to a designer’s aesthetic and technical criteria. Gareth’s original concept has ultimately given the design community the ability to “create without boundaries.”

Gareth is continually evolving the Eventscape concept. Never one to rest on current successes, his passion for invention drives his ambition. In 2001, he launched another company called Leef to design and produce mobile privacy screens, a key component of the flexible, modular workspace. At its introduction, Leef won a Product Innovation Award at IIDEX. In 2009, Gareth unveiled another company called TROOP to create limited edition functional sculptures. These innovative creations, a fusion of art and design, are already making a statement in the art world.

Under Gareth’s leadership, Eventscape is recognized by design peers as a company of innovators, whose projects have won over 60 major industry awards to date [2009], including Store of the Year in 2004 and 2006, and AIA Excellence in Interior Architecture in 2005 and 2007. Eventscape projects have been featured in over 100 major design publications around the world including Frame, Interior Design, Metropolis, and Architectural Record.

Projects range from a Royal Wedding in Abu Dhabi to a Casino in Macau to a grand retail installation in South Korea. Gareth has earned the respect and trust of top designers and architects worldwide including HOK, RTKL, SOM, Foster and Partners, Giorgio Borruso, and
David Rockwell.
