Localism

LOCALISM: A widespread interest in locally sourced ingredients that migrated from foodie culture to the design profession, resulting in
buildings and furnishings that incorporate materials gathered within
a defined radius (often 500 miles). [Editor’s note: Carson’s illustration riffs on a different meaning of localism.]

“I took some liberty with the spelling, as I believe localism is truly crazy, misguided, and oh-so-much unneeded negative energy. People get in fights over something neither owns. Here’s a girl getting her head kicked in … maybe someone wanted her wave, or she dared to park at ‘their’ spot. Perceived and real property boundaries often lead to locoism. Remember, we never really OWN land; you simply borrow it for your short time on earth.” —David Carson
