Teknion Opens New, Expanded Showroom in Downtown Atlanta

Teknion targeting LEED-CI Gold with new Atlanta showroom by tvsdesign and Vanderbyl Design

Posted May 14, 2012

Teknion Corporation announced the official opening of its new 7,300-square-foot showroom in Atlantic Station, the largest urban redevelopment project in North America and home to Atlanta’s top design firms.

“We took on a new L-shaped site – a cavernous space with soaring ceilings – in which we created interior architecture that celebrates the height while not overpowering our extensive product line,” said Maxine Mann, President of Teknion’s U.S. operations. “The showroom succeeds both as a dynamic space and a neutral backdrop that maximizes the furniture’s impact.”

White pleated walls rise to the ceiling. Strategically placed screens with the same pleated construction as the floor-to-ceiling walls create visual layers and define zones that allow visitors to focus on individual groups of furniture. An orange wall contrasts behind a white seating display grid that highlights the individuality of the chairs displayed.

The showroom’s corner location at street level makes it highly visible. Natural light enters along two sides through full-height windows. The design concept highlights the application of Teknion’s Altos and Optos architectural wall products. Glass-enclosed Altos and Optos private offices allow the natural light to penetrate the space and meet LEED requirements for light and view. Raw concrete floors are polished to retain their utilitarian simplicity and provide a contrast to the walls.

“Pure, clean and contemporary, Teknion’s new Atlanta showroom offers a bold, yet elegant use of materials and space to express our corporate culture and show off our diverse product line. The innovative showroom experience that showcases much of the Teknion suite of products is enhanced digitally by an iPad app,” said Mann. “In keeping with Teknion’s mandate to have all new showrooms LEED certified, Teknion has registered the Atlanta showroom with the U.S Green Building Council with the certification goal of LEED-CI Gold.

The Atlanta showroom was designed by Vanderbyl Design. Established in San Francisco in 1973, Vanderbyl Design is a multi-disciplinary studio with expertise in identity, print and digital communications, interiors, furniture and product design. tvsdesign – a global firm with over 40 years’ experience in planning, architecture, interior and sustainable design experience – was the architect of record.

Located at 271 17th Street N.W., Suite 125, Atlanta, Georgia, tours of the new Teknion showroom can be arranged by calling 678.538.1760.
