Game Changers 2013
When we sit down to select our annual Game Changers, a great deal of care is spent creating a diverse group. The 2013 roster is certainly no exception. This year, though, we tried something new. We combined people (the legendary historian Vincent Scully, the climate change activist and architect Edward Mazria, the design patron Jamie Gray) with big, bold projects (The Great Lakes Century, Dream:In, and the Women’s Opportunity Center). All six share an ambition of scale: Ed Mazria, for instance, has in ten years completely redefined the architectural debate around climate change; Dream:In is attempting nothing less than the reimagining of a country more than one billion people strong; SOM’s Great Lakes initiative is envisioning a new life for a region responsible for 20 percent of Earth’s fresh water. It is an impressive and transformative group of people and ideas.
