ABET LAMINATI—50 Years of High Pressure
ABET LAMINATI turns 50 this year—establishing a half century of exceptional relationships with designers, architects and innumerable satisfied customers. Converting from a leather tanning company to decorative HPL laminates in 1957, Abet opened its first European subsidiary in France in 1962. Today it has a direct presence in over 90 countries and is one of the leading high pressure laminate producers in the world.
In the Sixties, an intelligent and far-sighted strategy led the company to become a world leader in less than twenty years. Abet developed the Solid Colors series, which today offers the largest collection of solid colored high pressure laminates in the world. Abet also introduced the first silk-screened printed laminate. These innovations offered alternatives to imitation wood and faux marble, which delineated the product at that time.
During the Seventies, Abet reached out across the ocean and was the main backer of the New York Museum of Modern Art’s exhibit on Italian design. Abet also created Stratificato, a self-supporting phenolic panel used for wall systems, toilet partitions, shower stalls, furniture and lockers.
In the Eighties, Abet gave birth to Alchimia and Memphis, two of the most revolutionary cultural movements it has ever participated in. These movements, coordinated by Architect Ettore Sottasass, pronounced the importance of Italian and international design and became an important instrument for the promotion of “Made in Italy” all over the globe. And in 1987, Abet’s innovative translucent laminate “Diafos” won the “Compasso d’oro”, the most sought-after Italian award for design.
The nineties led to the collaboration, once again, with Ettore Sottsass and his selections for the new Solid Colors series. Abet also won the European Design Award, a prestigious prize that emphasized its successful research/relationship between technology and design.
The new millennium committed Abet to the research of high quality, innovative techniques and more refined and sought-after new products. In 2001 ABET LAMINATI, together with Ferrari, received its second “Compasso d’oro”, this time as a career award.
ABET LAMINATI continues to dedicate itself to research, design and customer satisfaction. The company just achieved certification for ISO 9001 – the International Standard for a Quality Management System which meets customer satisfaction. Today, tomorrow, and throughout the next fifty years, Abet will strive to meet customer needs in a timely and professional manner, as well as deliver the best design and technology available to high pressure decorative laminate.
