Bold Prints, Great Motives

Before the Brooklyn-based Hartnetts started printing their own wallpaper in 2003, they got help developing the designs from a New Jersey-based printer. Though they ended up using another local outfit to print their paper, Twenty2 stayed in touch with the original company. That New Jersey printer recently switched to water-based inks, and the Hartnetts were excited both to work with their friend and to produce a more sustainable product. It was a good match for the printer too, who misses the era that was less dominated by large wallpaper companies. “They’ve been doing this for decades,” Kyra says. “They got all these great stories about the ’70s, when there used to be more small brands.” With richly colorful, environmentally friendly new patterns like Promenade and Peekaboo, the partnership is fortunate for us all.
