Date With an Architect

See the films and converse with the architects about their projects.

The Center for Architecture introduced a film series last Thursday that takes the audience up close and personal with four world-renowned architects. Daniel Libeskind headlined the series, Films and Conversations with the Architects,  with the showing of Daniel Libeskind: Denver Art Museum, Frederic C. Hamilton Building. Peter Eisenman, Steven Holl, and Thom Mayne follow in Libeskind’s footsteps and will take you on a guided tour of their latest projects via the silver screen. Stay later for the conversation!

The works presented in this film series are as divergent as they are ambitious—you may find it difficult to attend just one:

Thursday, February 12, 2009—Peter Eisenman: University of Phoenix Stadium for the Arizona Cardinals
Eisenman’s facility for the Arizona Cardinals tells the visual story of what a sports-fanatic architect can achieve.

Thursday, February 19, 2009—Steven Holl: The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City
Holl’s Bloch Building for the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City is nothing short of luminous. Get briefed on the structure here, before you go!

Thursday, March 5, 2009—Thom Mayne: U.S. Federal Office Building, San Francisco
Now’s your opportunity to see if another completed federal building by the Pritzker-Prize winning architect has made him shed his bad boy image.

These films are presented by Checkerboard Film Foundation as part of the Landmarks in 21st Century American Architecture series. Go to www.aiany.org for more information and to RSVP for these upcoming events.
