Elegant and Efficient Workspace

The Wedgewood office system for Tuohy Furniture reimagines the strategic configuration of private office space. Los Angeles designers David Ritch and Mark Saffell of 5D Studio recognized that office real estate is shrinking, so that even when you find traditional, individual offices, the space is smaller. To compensate, they took two standard elements of the contemporary office—the small round conference table with chairs and comfortable seating with a low table—and combined them into one unit. The unit incorporates the table into a corner of the desk itself and surrounds that area with upholstered lounge chairs. One benefit, according to Saffell, is the ease with which its occupant can either maintain the standard power hierarchy—by keeping the desk between him or herself and their visitors—or create a more intimacy by coming around the desk to join them.
