Juan Carlos is riffing on cardboard. The Monterrey, Mexico, designer studied finance at Pepperdine before training in cardboard industrial design in Paris at Les Haines. His numbered and signed series of cardboard chairs (including a rocker) can all be placed on the floor at varying angles to create different types of chairs, a table base, stool, or magazine rack.

“It is an ephemeral material,” says Juan Carlos, “but it can last as long as you don’t get it wet. Like suede, it develops its own personality.”
