Going with the Flo
Inspired by the origami that designer Andrea White has been creating for years, Brave Design’s Flo 400 sports an undulating translucent shade made from a wood veneer strip laminated onto a core of lexan, a polycarbonate plastic. While the smaller version of the lamp is more pliable, able to be reconfigured into a variety of shapes, the larger version’s shade is still very flexible.
Inside, four fluorescent light bulbs rest on a central support, which, in turn, is balanced on a brushed, nickel-plated steel base. Brave Design, which is based in Montreal, Canada, sells the lamp on its own Web site and that of MOMA, as well as to the trade in its showroom.
