Green

Buzzwords

GREEN: Usurped sustainable in the last decade as the preferred term for environmentally sensitive architecture and design. Quickly became so ubiquitous as to lose nearly all meaning (hence greenwashing). Nevertheless, it seems to be here to stay.

“This piece is site specific: What is green right here and now? Sadly, not what it used to be. Support for environmental issues (and science) in the U.S. has dropped precipitously. That’s not green. And Metropolis is an excellent reason to print ink on paper and ship it around the world, but that’s not very green either. So this page can be reused as a sign for things (like your neighbor’s SUV) that are not green—or as a sign for things (like your SUV) that reveal how proud you are to be not green.” —Scott Stowell
