The design of a healthcare facility has an impact on health and wellbeing of both patients and doctors. The Bloorview Kids Rehab center in Toronto, ON, and the Prentice Women’s Hospital in Chicago, IL are two beautiful examples of facilities where design moves promote healing. The articles “Health and Happiness” and “Amenity Hospital” from the February 2008 issue of Metropolis explain how architects can play doctor through everything from the emotional impact of a lobby to the aural environment of rooms and hallways.

– Determine upcoming trends in healthcare design that will contribute to the wellbeing of hospital users
