Jinhee Park Wins Again!

Winner of the first Metropolis Next Generation Design Competition is honored for her ongoing efforts

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) announced the winners of the 2009 Young Architects Awards today. Among the eight honorees is Jinhee Park of SINGLE speed DESIGN (Ssd) who along with partners John Hong  (who won the Young Architects Award in 2006) and Erik Carlson won the first annual MetropolisNext Generation award in 2004 for the Big Dig House.

The design award is cited as a contributing factor to Park’s success. According to the AIA’s press release:

Jinhee Park and the firm she co-founded are widely published, including being awarded the first Metropolis Next Generation Prize. “Their project, recycling the remnants of Boston’s Big Dig into beautiful housing, so impressed the judges that the proposal, happily, came to represent the high standards we have since then put on our awards program,” writes Metropolis Editor-in-Chief Susan S. Szenasy.

Park and SdS have plenty going on lately. Keep an eye on the news section of our Metropolis Next Generation section for upcoming information on their Ordos villa in Mongolia, sustainable suburban house prototype, and recent teaching experiences on the subject of “sustainable minimal living.”

Don’t forget that Next Generation applications are due tomorrow, Friday 1/30, at midnight PST!
