Interested in blending their clean, contemporary ceramics with more traditional subject matter, Brooklyn designers James Klein and David Reid have created a ghostly tableau in white porcelain with their StillLife series. In addition to three noble-looking vases on pedestals, the series contains sculptural objects that include an apple, a candlestick and candle, a book with a bookmark peeking out from the bottom edge, and even a handkerchief—all rendered in white porcelain, either glazed or matte. Several of the vessels and objects are detailed with a fine raised pinstripe that recalls mid-century Scandinavian ceramics, adding another layer to the classic/contemporary mix.
