Initially designed for use on yachts, the Suspended Bed from Brighton-based Formfollows is a cheeky take on a bed’s multiple uses. Product designer Matthew Ridsdale began working on his design about two years ago, and owns the first prototype. “It’s a little bit sexual,” he admits of the bed, whose mattress is suspended between stainless steel frames by elastic shock cords. Moreover, he points out, “it’s silent,” which has made it a favorite for hotels and their visitors. All sauciness aside, the bed has been installed on yachts, and does counteract any pitching and yawing experienced on the high seas because of the flexibility of the adjustable cords. The bed comes in two (British) sizes, king and emperor, and is available in a range of head and tailboards, with a price beginning at around $5,000. They are currently manufactured in the UK, but can be shipped to the US for those looking for a little bit more excitement in the American bedroom.
