Developed by NYCxDesign as a way to unite and share stories from New York City’s architecture and design communities, The Mic is set to launch in October with an inaugural episode focused on theme of “Gathering Together.” The Mic will be hosted by designer Debbie Millman, who is known for her own podcast, Design Matters, which she has produced since 2005.

To launch this new venture, NYCxDesign is soliciting pitches and design stories from across the New York design community, encouraging anyone who is interested to submit a voice message for potential inclusion in one of The Mic’s episodes. Through 2020 and culminating with the NYCxDesign festival in May 2021, monthly episodes will explore a variety of topics including Gathering Together, Living Well, and Beauty Is Everywhere, all of which will build on the theme of “Design for Sharing.” Beginning in October, The Mic will be broadcast on all major podcast streaming apps and will also receive dedicated distribution through NYCxDesign’s digital channels and through DesignTV by Sandow, a syndicated video network focused on design.

“I’m thrilled to work with NYCxDESIGN on The Mic to empower the creative minds of New York City! I look forward to engaging in meaningful discussions that explore the projects, products, and inspirations that drive our city’s innovative community,”says Millman. “This year, the series will explore Design for Sharing to underscore design as a powerful connector and catalyst to help us build a better future together.”
