Highlights of #MetropolisLikes from Neocon

This year, Metropolis looked back at 50 years of NeoCon while also surveying the future with its 33 forward-thinking #MetropolisLikes NeoCon awardees.

Arper’s #MetropolisLikes-winning Kiik collection of seating, tables, ottomans, and consoles was designed by Ichiro Iwasaki for hybrid or in-between spaces—waiting rooms, lobbies, university lounges, collaborative work zones, meeting areas, or multifunctional spaces. arper.com

Metropolis was proud to help shine a light at this year’s NeoCon, highlighting the convention’s best products and the 50-year history of the NeoCon itself.

For the latter, Metropolis put together a timeline, video, and slew of articles on this renowned gathering of designers and manufacturers. The video was on view at the Merchandise Mart’s first floor, though you can find it (as well as all our “NeoCon 50” content) here. At NeoCon, Metropolis also introduced the first edition of Specify, a new annual publication tracking the convention’s people, products, and ideas to watch in the year ahead. But we were also proud to deliver our #MetropolisLikes awards, which were crafted by architect Eva Schone’s Austin-based Trophyology. Each award’s wood body was sourced from an urban reclaimed Sycamore tree that would’ve otherwise been turned into wood mulch. Ever mindful of healthy materials, Trophyology finished the awards with a no-VOC oil. The awards were also encased in a felt-like sleeve made in the U.S.A. from 95% upcycled plastic bottles.

In the slideshow below, you can see members of each #MetropolisLikes-winning team accepting their awards. Each caption describes the respective company’s product.
