Announcing Metropolis Perspective: Sustainability 2020

Metropolis’s bi-annual sustainability symposium returns in a virtual format, providing access to free, in-depth webinars.

2020 Perspective Sustainability Symposium

This July and September, Metropolis’s Perspective: Sustainability symposium will be offered in a virtual format, allowing members of the architecture and design community in North America and around the world to participate in deep, forward-looking conversations around sustainable practice. Tackling issues of climate change, decarbonization, wellness, equity, and technology, the discussions will help industry leaders and enthusiasts to share information and chart the way forward.

In 2018 and 2019, the symposium was held in New York, Seattle, and Los Angeles. With keynote presentations, panel discussions, and social events, audiences in all three cities interacted with policymakers, local practitioners, and national leaders in architecture, design, and manufacturing.

“Going to a virtual format in 2020 will allow us to reach an even larger number of people,” says Jerry Croft, Metropolis’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Strategy Officer. “We hope that experienced practitioners and beginners alike can take advantage of the expertise represented by our speakers and help us build momentum in the fight for a healthier and more sustainable future.”

The July symposium—presented with the International Living Future Institute (ILFI) and sponsored by Armstrong Ceiling and Wall Solutions and Tarkett—will consist of three sessions on July 27, 28, and 29, 2020. Each session will consist of a keynote address, a panel discussion with an extended Q&A section, and a demonstration of a tool for sustainable design. Leaders from BNIM, DPR Construction, HKS, ILFI, Perkins and Will, WRNS Studio, and other organizations will speak during the event. All sessions are free and CEU accredited with the AIA and IDCEC, with a limited number of seats available for registration.

On July 30, Metropolis will gather architects, designers, and manufacturers for a roundtable on sustainable specification. Leaders in the field will discuss how to overcome challenges in specification, so that the right products and materials can be used on projects to drive highly sustainable outcomes. Insights from the webinars as well as the roundtable will be available in early August in the Metropolis Sustainability Lab, metropolismag.com/lab

“For nearly 25 years, Metropolis has supported sustainable architecture and design in North America and around the world,” says editor in chief Avinash Rajagopal. “Our Perspective: Sustainability events as well as the Metropolis Sustainability Lab are our latest efforts to be a resource to the A&D community. We want to bring people together around a broad understanding of sustainability that includes equity, resilience, and wellness—perspectives that will be essential to meet the challenges of this year and the next decade.”
