Peter Yost asks: What might the American Home be like in 2030?

The one thing we can all count on is …change. It’s like gravity, not just an idea, it’s the law. The forces that will exert change on the way we design and build are just as inexorable—economic, environmental, social. As with gravity, we can let these forces “drag” us down in our work, or we can use them to build momentum for improving the ways in which buildings shelter and nurture us. Yost will use his perspective as a green building consultant to surmise how the building envelope, its mechanical systems, and the services or functions buildings deliver will change in the next twenty years. Come measure Yost’s vision and perhaps offer your own!

Dr. Andrew Dent, vice president, Library & Materials Research, Material ConneXion believes that true innovation in materials can be an effective use of scarce resources or technology transfers. Henrik Otto, senior vice president of Global Design at Electrolux and juror for the Electrolux Design Lab, an annual global design competition open to industrial design students, presents this year’s ideas and discusses how these can lead to product innovation.
Jeff Avallon, John Goscha, and Morgan Newman, founders of IdeaPaint reveal how their new business started in a college dorm, how they came to create a new product, a fresh approach to marketing, and a new company.
