Metropolis Awards Best Products at New York Design Week
Our editors called out the top spaces, products, and ideas they saw at this year's design extravaganza.
There was plenty to see at all the exhibitions and openings taking place over this year’s rebranded week-long festival called NYCxDesign, including the 25th annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) and WantedDesign, which showcased the latest creations by emerging furniture and lighting designers.
Metropolis editors sought out the top spaces, products, and ideas during New York Design Week, in integrated social media coverage known as Metropolis Likes. They carefully examined all the great design on display at ICFF and WantedDesign, and awarded their favorites with plaques produced by 3M Architectural Markets, using 3M Crystal Glass Finishes.
The plaques became a visual guide—helping the design week audience navigate the fairs and exhibitions via the #MetropolisLikes hashtag, as each selection was announced live with photos on Instagram, Twitter, Flickr, Facebook, and Pinterest.
An ICFF show favorite, for example, was Wolf-Gordon, who introduced an innovative new product ‘Wink’, a clear dry-erase coating that transforms any surface into a write-and-erase canvas. Show attendees tried their hand at completing landscape-themed drawings started by 10 notable artists and designers by playing the surrealist game known as “exquisite corpse.” Check out a time-lapse video of the booth-transforming process:

Throughout the 4 days, the editors saluted designs that are innovative, unexpected and urgent, including ideas that strike attendees as beautiful, useful and brilliant.
Special thanks to 3M Architectural Markets for a great collaboration. And, congratulations to all Metropolis Likes during Design Week!
