A Texan’s Voice on New Orleans

All of us need to be interested in the positive and negative developments in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast [“Voices of New Orleans”]. Texans should especially pay close attention—it could have been us.

Because the shipping, oil, and gambling big business interests derive so much income from the area, one would only hope their cooperation, input, and dollars would ease the rebuilding. For example, marshland preservation needs increased oil company investment to enlarge these areas. Does this displace more people?

This is all very complex, but as Americans we need a “can do” attitude from citizens, politicians, and businesses. The value of leadership and vision cannot be underestimated.
