Nessen’s Abacus table lamp takes a visual cue from the ancient counting instrument; that’s fitting, because the fixture is as graceful and pure of form as its namesake. The 24” lamp, which is comprised of three solid wooden beads joined by metal rings, sits atop a 6” metal base. The piece is available in numerous wood finishes, including two types of maple and cherry, as well as multiple metal finishes, among them brass, nickel, and chrome. A three-way switch on the socket controls the lamp’s intensity, which can be diffused with a white silk or white rice paper shade.

In these trying economic times, perhaps everybody should have an honest lamp that takes simplicity into account. Former Andersen and Enron employees, take note.
