Bamboo is big in interior design—it’s readily found in flooring, wall coverings, and furniture. But its natural form has also been a source of inspiration. As Ruth Livingston recalls, “I was riding on an elephant through a bamboo forest in northern Thailand and thought, We’ve got to replicate these shapes in steel.” When she returned to her Tiburon, California studio, she met with metal artist Kyle Reicher—a frequent collaborator—and together they developed the newest addition to Livingston’s metal furniture and accessories portfolio. The Bamboo Forest Collection is fabricated in steel with hand-applied patinas or “mercury” finishes; it’s also available in powder coated finishes for outdoor use. Livingston says, “They’re pieces of sculptural bamboo that imitate life.”
