Konstantin Grcic with Brooke Stoddard

Brooke Stoddard parses the design process with Konstantin Grcic, whose latest beautifully provocative exploration into the relationship of form, function, and materials is the Myto chair for Plank. As Grcic notes, “BASF commissioned me to design an application/product using Ultradur® High Speed, its next generation plastic. Its characteristics led to Myto, a cantilevered chair conceived for monoblock plastic injection molding.” Based in Munich and trained in the United Kingdom, Grcic has created award-winning products for Cappellini, Flos, Iitala, Montina, SCP, and others.

ICFF Theater

At the ICFF, everything is by design. That includes the ICFF Theater, which is nothing if not a stage for the latest in dramatic solutions. This year, the interior features Link, PearsonLloyd’s new light-weight modular space shaper made of high-performance expanded
polypropylene, a material commonly used in packaging and the automotive industry. The elegant components fit together in a snap for purely decorative purposes or for temporary structures. As for seating, star billing goes to the Bouroullec brothers’ Magis Steelwood chair, an assemblage of steel and wood designed for ultimate comfort–and happy sitting for three acts, plus. Here’s to the human dramedy.
