Lauded at last year’s ICFF for their louvered 6-Panel Screen, Brooklyn-based 3square design returns with an angular take on a chair built around negative space. Interested in the idea of a continuous loop, designer Michael Cannamela plays with expectations by using Maharam fabric to create a narrow seat, then perching it atop a very thick footprint. The ottoman’s thick seat and slender foot mirror the lines of the chair. In its entirety, chair and ottoman resemble a Cubist’s chaise longue. “It sort of designed itself,” says Cannemela, who drew the first sketch only two weeks ago and named it after his new collie-shepherd-mix puppy.
